Egon Schiele and his paintings
1890 Egon Schiele is born in the town of Tulln on the Danube, the son of
Adolf and Marie Schiele. He has a sister, Gertrude, who is the subject of many
of his paintings.
Encouraged by Ludwig Karl Strauch, Schiele leaves secondary school at
Klosterneuberg to study at Vienna's Acadamy of Fine Arts, he participated in his
first public exhibition at the convent of Klosterneuberg, Saw the Kunstschau
organized by Klimt and his circle. Together with a number of classmates, Egon
Schiele leaves the Academy on 17 June to form their own group, the
Neukunstgruppe, Participates in the international Kunstschau, sequel to the
previous year's Kunstschau, a the invitation of klimt. In December the
Neukunstgruppe has its own show at Gustav Pisko's gallery. Here he meets Arthur
Roessler, critic f the Areiter-Zeitung, future friend, Patron and critic of
Schiele's painting works.
In 1911, Egon Moved to Kurumanu toether with his model and partner, Valerie
Neuzil. Forced from the town by public opinion, he moves to Neulengbach. Egon
was ever arrested and imprisoned for exposing minors to pornography in
Neulengbach. Schiele learned and attempted to exploit, with little success, the
techniques of graphic art, producing a series of etchings. Anton Joseph Trcka
produceds a series of photographs of Schiele, some of the which the artist
alters to become self-portrait.
